what I would do is let them pick a card and then place it on the top of the deck, fake shuffle it so you control it to the bottom, then fake shuffle it so you control it back to the top. Then proccede with the trick. This is so the spectator thinks the card is lost in the deck.

just so you now you can use another palm technique where you bend the card a bit but it works better with plastic cards.
